Beaches
are becoming more and more crowded, which in all honesty, do not work well with
man's best friend. As good as our puppies may be, they can still be
tempted by peanut butter sandwiches, frisbies and sandcastles. It is also
an unfortunate fact that some dog owners let their pets run loose on beaches and
don't clean up after them. Even buried dog feces can be uncovered by a
baby digging in the sand!
Always call the local government to see what the
current rules are for dogs on beaches. You can also call the local Chamber
of Commerce to find dog friendly areas in your vacation spot. And please,
always carry doggie bags to use for cleaning up after your dog.
So where can we take our pooches to romp in the sand and splash in the water?
Here are a few beaches to try with your dog:
Corolla, NC
Corolla has beautiful kid and dog friendly beaches. Dogs must be
leashed during the season, but are often found romping in the sand during the
warm, off season weekends. Look out for vehicles after Labor Day. An
occasional truck will drive by with folks who either don't see or don't care
about the dog, although most keep a careful eye. Just be sure your dog
will come when you call him or her.
