The Collie is a large dog with a long, beautiful coat.  This breed is normally good with children if they are raised with them.  The Collie loves attention from his family.  He is an animated, gentle and sensitive dog.  The Rough Collie is often less active than the Smooth Collie.

Your Collie loves to be with you.  If she is left alone she may become destructive.  The Collie likes to greet friends at the door and then find a nice spot to sit during the visit.  Some Collies may be a bit shy toward strangers, but generally the Collie is a sweet natured dog.  Your Collie will probably do well with other pets.

The Collie may be sensitive to loud noises or a stressful atmosphere.  Collies enjoy happy homes with low stress levels and plenty of attention.  There are some Collies who tend to bark.  You may also find your Collie trying to herd the children of the family!

Training

Collies should be trained with praise and treats.  They become stressed if trained under authoritative or negative conditions.  The Collie is smart and loves to please his family members.  The smooth Collie has more working instincts and will do well with jobs when training.

Exercise

Your Collie is a large dog who needs moderate exercise.  He may enjoy "herding" outside, and loves to hike, take walks and chase balls.  A Collie needs a yard to play in to be happiest.
