The
Bearded Collie, or Beardie,” is a big, fun loving, bouncy family dog. He
wants to be with his family, and will be unhappy left alone. Due to his
size, be careful if you have small children – they may get knocked over or
hurt, as they would with any large breed of dog.
This
breed loves to be outdoors. They should not be kept as apartment dogs, but
rather in houses with nice yards to run in. Some enjoy swimming, and all of
them love to romp in big open fields. Be sure to exercise them daily to
keep them healthy.
If you
don’t mind slobber and lots of tail wagging, this is a wonderful dog to
have. This breed requires daily brushing, so if you don’t have the time,
this breed may not be for you.
The
Bearded Collie is playful, energetic, comforting, lively and happy. He does
well with other pets around, and is easily trained. If you plan to own one
of these dogs, be ready for lots of big bouncy fun.
Training
The
Bearded Collie is intelligent and can be trained to do many things.
This dog is fairly easy to housetrain.
Exercise
The Bearded Collie loves to be
outside. He is happy running and playing and should have a
nice yard to frolic in. This dog is especially happy to be
outdoors with his family. You should not leave a Bearded
Collie alone outside all day, since he is happiest being with his
owners.

Grooming
This breed needs to
be brushed every day. Spray the fur with a bit of water if
needed and brush to get all the mats out. Start grooming daily
when your dog is a puppy to get him used to brush time.
Grooming your puppy only a minute at a time will help him to love
the attention he receives while being brushed. Always check
for ticks under this thick long coat.
Health
The
Bearded Collie may be prone to allergies, hip dysplasia,
hypothyroidism, eye problems and auto-immune disease.
